How to prepare for a personal-brand photoshoot in Dubai

A personal-brand shoot is not a headshot session. Done well, one day gives you images for every profile, your website, press, speaking pages and months of posts. Done without a plan, it gives you forty versions of the same smile. Here is how to prepare.

Decide what you want to be known for

Write one sentence: the thing people should think of when they see your face. Every choice — clothes, places, expressions — should support it. A performance coach looks different from a property investor, and both look different from a gallery founder.

List where the images will live

• Profile photos for LinkedIn, Instagram and speaking bios.
• Website hero and about page — often wide, with space for text.
• Banners and templates for social and YouTube.
• Press kit and event programmes.

Plan two or three looks

One formal, one relaxed, one that shows you at work. Bring options, avoid busy patterns and logos you do not want to promote, and choose colours that sit well with your brand.

Choose locations that say something

A clean studio for portraits and profile images; the city — a skyline, an office, a gym, a gallery — for context that tells your story. Some locations need permission to shoot, so check before the day.

Mind the light and the heat

In Dubai the midday sun is harsh and, for much of the year, hot. Outdoor sessions work best early in the morning or in the hour before sunset; interiors and studios work at any time.

Let yourself be directed

Natural images come from direction, not from posing. A good photographer gives you something to do — walk, talk, work — and catches the moments in between. Plan for a few hours rather than a few minutes.
